Youth Cafe - Light and Land

The Orkney Youth Café recently participated in a six-week project at Soulisquoy with Laura Drever.  The starting point was to think about Light and Land.  Each young person was invited to select a few found objects to use as inspiration for their drawings.  They all came up with a design to be transferred on to Lino and once cut, printed on the Columbian Press.  The prints were then made into Lanterns and framed for them to take home. 

Throughout the project, everyone engaged, enjoyed and was excited by the process. A young person commented, “this Studio is really relaxing, it’s great to be here and learn about printmaking”. The group decided to make a lantern each and one to be kept at the Youth Cafe for their new Sensory Room.

Laura said, “It was a delight to work with the group from the Youth Café.  The smiles when the young people used the Columbian press and revealed their prints was brilliant!”
